Beautiful views

Beautiful old buildings steeped in History with breathtaking views of the city. Taxi from pest cost us 1700f worth it to see more of the city as a long walk.

One of the most impressive parts of Buda, the Citadel offers fantastic views across the Danube to Pest. Went a couple of times on the tour bus - once just for a quick photo stop and the other to really see and explore. Great old city walls/defences and the Statue of Liberty is much more interesting to see up close... More

The view of the city of Budapest and surrounding area is tremendous from the citadel. A long walk round the citadel is easy enough. The sculptures in front of the citadel are worth a look.

The views from the Citadel are wonderful. I really wanted to go inside to explore but even after walking around the entire structure...I could not find the way in.

Steep climb & covered in ice in January. It was a dangerous climb so be well prepared with good grip boots. You will slide down parts. Good railing though to hold on to.

Sitting atop Gellert Hill this impressive fortress and the Statue of Liberty provide a combination of spectacular views with a dose of Hungarian history. Beware of street peddlers hanging around the small vendor booths near the Citadel.

The views from the citadel are quite spectacular but the defensive works themselves are underwhelming. There are some billboards explaining the history of the place which are nice but they don't make up for the fact that the citadel is just not that exciting or dramatic or, least of all, beautiful. If you don't have plenty of time in Budapest,... More

The view from the Citadel is the best. You can´t lose it. Is the perfect place to take pictures with your girlfriend/boyfriend.

There are fantastic views of the entire city including great views of the river from here. Definitely a must visit just for the view. There are also public toilets here which cost €1.

While view on Budapest is fantastic there are nothing more . Few dealers try to sell cheap worthless stuff for high prices to tourists. Restrooms is about $ 2.00.

Staying in Gellert Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
Gellert Hill
If you want to treat your camera to some amazing scenery, Gellért Hill is a must on your itinerary. A funicular journey from the Chain Bridge along the hillsides provides a fast connection between Buda and Pest, hoisting visitors to panoramic vistas. Once on top of the hill, you’ll find the Citadel dominate the landscape with its imposing 19th century construction, a site that’s hard to keep your eyes on without being distracted by the phenomenal view over the Danube and the eight bridges crossing. Once on Gellért Hill however, one mustn’t miss the famous Gellért Baths. Budapest is renown for its thermal waters and its baths, and the Gellért Baths are housed in an impressive art nouveau structure. Its interior design, with its many mosaics, recalls the preceding relationships the city has had with healing springs and saunas, traditionally used within this neighborhood since the Ottoman Empire.
