My wife and I visited here on our way to Budapest from Vienna. On arriving the first thing you notice is the location of the Abbey affords stunning views over the surrounding countryside in all directions. The origins of the Abbey go back about 1000 years and is rich in history as well as being an integral part of the... More

Touring the abby was one of highlitghs of my my visit to Hungary. The herb garden and suvenier shop along with a very nice restaurant with a good wine selection. It is certainly a place to visit for the whole family.

Don't miss the Library here, which is fantastic. The Abbey itself is impressive and there is much else to do besides.

The time is getting slower the nice of the surrounding environmental is canceled you are in the spiritual world of the Benedictines. We learned a lot by taking the guided tour. However, we didn't get into the church, which I wanted to do. Seems like that the "holy grail", no pun intended.

The view from the top is amazing. The library is very interesting. The place is isolated and very quiet. We were too late to attend the mass so check the time so you can attend. This is a great part of history not to be missed.

You can see its monumental building from the highway. There is a parking site near the Abbey. You get an audioguide with your ticket so you can listen to the history of the site. There is a lot to see and it si worth visiting.

We went there by bus mid-morning on a Saturday and they were closed all day for a special event. Long bus ride for nothing. No mention of the closing on their website. Lots and lots of other people, both tourists and locals, there too. No one knew. Shame!

We caught the bus from Gyor which was ridiculously cheap and it dropped us right at the top at the Abbey. We then did the self-guided tour which was excellent! We then walked down the path to the town and caught the bus back to Gyor. This was an amazing day for our family especially with all the snow... it... More
