Travelled here with a group of friends whilst staying in Budapest. It was a bit of a hike involving a bus, a train and a taxi journey but well worth it. It cost 2,000 HForint to go in, and we stayed about 4.5 hours and didn't see everything. You have to be physically fit to visit this place. It's not... More

We visited here as a couple and we got the train our of Budapest to Szentendre and then a bus from directly outside the train station to the museum (train journey roughly 1hour and bus ride appx 30-40mins.) I would recommend stopping for a look around Szentendre also as there are lots of quaint shops, eateries etc. The open air... More

Fabulous open air museum. Historic, pretty and full of adventure for kids. Best museum I have ever visited. You need a good 4hrs or more to fully appreciate it.

a really lovely snapshot of styles of houses from around Hungary, peppered with some traditional arts and crafts, rackajuh and mangalica, games and interactive exhibits like the Magic Barn and of course a gift shop. Also including a windmill and an onsite bakery and cafe/restaurants. It is a sizeable area though, so I would say that in 3-4 hours we... More

The campus is an interesting place, where different styles of rural housing are presented from the past 2 centuries, roughly. (Hand)crafts and cattle farming from different regions of Hungary in their unique styles are shown separately in a manner of different villages. Wind, tread and water mills can be found besides old style waggons. In addition, there are ruins of... More

Good: We visited on a quite Wednesday as it had been raining in the morning. Great as so few people, but nowhere to buy lunch, so take food with you. There was a small bakery at the beginning, where you can buy some pastries, but then nothing for the rest of the visit, too far to return to if you... More

Not to be missed if you like to have an idea of hungarian village life (architecture, history, everyday life of a village family,etc.). You need to have plenty of time to enjoy the whole place (more than 3 hours). Best to be visited during a day under 30°C. No age limit of the visitors- everyone will find sth to enjoy himself.

One of the most beautiful open air museum, which I have visited. What a pity that employees access ruined my good impression. Almost no one spoke English or German. It was impossible to communicate here. Missing sheet in a foreign language. It could not pay by credit card. When foreigners asked how they pay, employees told them that it is... More

If you are in Hungary and want to understand the Hungarian people and their culture, then this Open Air Museum is a must visit. It is quite big - spanning across 60 acres (there is a train which can help you get around) - so make enough time to enjoy the museum. True to its word - its a living... More
