Worth a visit

If you are in the area it is well worth a visit if only to learn the History of the country. Kaunas used to be the capital before it was replaced by Vilnius.

The Palace was closed when we went on a Sunday afternoon, but walking around the grounds and seeing the outdoor displays was just lovely.

The building housed the presidents of Lithuania between the world wars while Kaunas was the capital city 1918 to 1939. Now there is an interesting exhibition of life in Lithuania in the interwar years. A lot of pictures of every aspect of life during these years. The texts with the pictures are both in Lithuanian and English. Also there are... More

We saw the outside of the palace and looked a bit at the photo exhibition there what made our walk through Lithuania a little bit more interesting. We couldn't enter the building, though.

During a walk around the very small old town of Kaunas you'll stumble across this impressive palace. The museum is of limited interest and I was hustled out because it closes at 5pm. The large horse chestnut tree outside yields excellent fruits - if you are into conkers!

I never entered the building, I only walked around in the park and watched a photoexhibition. But I liked the relaxing atmosphere as this parked could afford.

If you are in love with inter-war period this museum is a must place to visit. It has a unique exposition about the inter-war Lithuanian presidents and the period itself and the interior of the palace is really simple but nice.

Nice and interesting piece of the lithuanian history. I've not seen the inside, but the palace itself and the garden are definetely worth to be seen!

Today the Historical Presidential Palace of the Republic of Lithuania in Kaunas functions as a memorial-educational institution of Lithuanian modern statehood. A permanent historical exhibition features representative portraits, pieces of art that originally decorated the interior of the Palace, gifts to the Presidents, surviving authentic furniture, historical pictures recording the Presidents’ foreign and internal activities, public activities, pictures from personal... The palace wasn't open but the little park in front had nice pictures and good places to sit. Great if buying icecream from nearby vendors.
