Street art taking over

The prison is closed, but you can still walk along the shore and take a peek inside and watch some cool graffiti, if you appreciate this kind of art.

Very scary location kept in original condition. No need for local guide. Very interesting and highly recommended! Sad that they are closing this place soon for public.

Untouched area where you can walk from cell blok to cell blok. This will certainly have a impact on you and it will help you to understand the history of the country and its inhabitants.

The fortress prison has a grim history. Tour guides show the execution chambers. Amazed this prison was only closed in 2001.

Located next to Tallinn Bay, one of an interesting Prison, which is currently served as a museum in Estonia. By looking at the structure, it could remind you of the old days when the CCCP ( Soviet Union) ruled this neighborhood.

Part of Tallinn history, this old fortress was used as a prison until the 80¨s. The hanging place is horrible, the cells are left as when the place was abandoned. Hospital wing is worth seeing.

I was with two friends and one of them suggested going to "the russian prison". To be honest, I didn't know what was going to happen and what to expect from it, but one thing is for sure - it was overwhelming. How could I expect such thing from a place with a view to beautiful and peaceful sea and... More

The Patarei prison is next door, very close to the Lennusadam maritime museum. It's an old sea fortress that Soviets turned into a prison. As we visited Lennusadam, we dropped by car and unfortunately it was closed. Don't know for how long.

This information about it being closed is been on our home page ever since it closed in October. We are right now trying to do all we can to rescue the site and keep it accessible for public. Unfortunately the owner (State Real Estate) has plans to build apartment buildings over there instead. So, if you care about the future... More

Such a terrible history on this place, but still so worth seeing. Unfortunately they have closed it to the public. I was happy to visit it twice. Hopefully they build something amazing in there. Great bar on the beach behind the building, open on summer time.

We were the only group visiting Patarei on that weds morning and you could just feel the spirit of the executed prisoners, the martyrs of freedom. This soviet era prison was truly a nauseous place to visit. Altogether it was the most impressing visit I've ever made to a prison museum as the place was left just like is was... More
