Excellent atmosphere

Had a lovely time just exploring the city with a couple of friends, the diversity of the architecture- combining old buildings with modern ones made the place feel alive.

Tartu is a town masquerading as a city, and its Old Town is accordingly modest in size. It's great for a wander though and has plenty of charm of its own, as well as a distinctly different feel to Tallinn thanks to the university and the energy its students bring to the place.

The old town of Tartu is really nice, small, but a little gem. If you are in Tartu, you really need to go here

Love this little town! The people, the places to eat, the scenery and the overall vibe -so positive, comforting, and warm even in winter ☺

Small and nice. Nothing great to offer other than sights but that for sure is enough. Compared to the Old Town of Tallinn this is more friendly and less commercial.

Of course if you are visiting Tartu - it's a place to walk, enjoy the view and so on. Unfortunately it isn't that impressive as big town.

Excellent city to explore with many very good restaurants and bars. The city centre has all that you would wish for: lovely parks, river walks, natural swimming pool, museums and plenty of quirky little houses to see.

Have visited the Old City every year for the past 8 years and never tire of walking around it. Tartu has developed slowly over this time and there are some very modern shopping complexes but it retains the Old Town Square which is a photographers dream. The kissing students fountain in the cobbled stone square is surrounded by restaurants, shops... More

Walking around the snowy old city in the evening between Xmas and New Year was beautiful. The streets and buildings are very interesting and the Xmas decorations across them were spectacular. Walking causes hunger and thirst but luckily there was a very good selection of bars and cafe's to address this. The bridges with their decorative lighting were spectacular and... More
