A truly excellent attraction with a well-curated museum in the new part of the castle. The old medieval part is great fun to explore with candle lanterns but leave time for the indoors bit too - great rooms, displays and the best bit in my opinion? The view from the top of the tower. A bargain all-in for €5.

It will certainly be less enjoyable during winter and bad weather as good part of experience involves walking around castle and park. We were lucky with weather as always and enjoyed visit. I would say if you can not really decide if it makes sense to drive here all the way from Riga, suggestion is - make your choice depending... More

The ticket is 3euros but should be combined with modern castle (much more to see) for 5euros. The best part of this old castle is that you are given lanterns with candles to explore up and down stairs in the tower, much more fun than electric lighting! Very slippery in winter though, I was there with snow and ice. Worth... More

Although we did not enter the Castle we walked around it, in the snow, as part of our tour. It is a spectacular sight, one of many old structures you can view with only a little bit of walking. Winter had frozen the lake in the middle of the grounds which some people in our group couldn't resist testing it... More

Went to cesis castle as part of a trip from riga, Probably better to visit in summer time, as very icy when we went there in December. Arrived to be greeted by a friendly member of staff, who told us about the castle complex, what to see & do. we were given a candle lantern as there is no lighting... More

Most of the time it is better that historic monuments, such as this, are not overdone. This castle can tell us the story from 12th century to 17th. You will not see that in Ljubljana........

This castle is a must visit when in Latvia. Made the day trip to Cesis and had a terrific time exploring the castle with the candle lantern Be warned that the spiral staircases are a bit of a struggle if you are tall or big. I didn't venture down into the dungeon due to the only entrance being a vertical... More

Few visitors, beautifull place. The castle is surrounded by a park and a huge field. I saw pictures of customed soldiers, but I didnt' see any of them. Maybe because of the time of the year. At the entrance you get a candle and cute candleholder. There are some places within the castle where you will definitely need it.

The castle is preserved in the original state no modern adds on. You may literally touch medieval artifacts. I strongly suggest to take guide with you and I bet you will learn something new about medieval way of life.

But not my favourite in Latvia. You have to get a ticket to visit the castle, but if you only want to visit the outside, you can take nice pictures from the garden.
