The story behind this unique architecture tells of its Latvian owner who was denied membership in the powerful Great Guild; to show his displeasure, he built two cat sculptures on his roof with their backsides facing the Guild and their tails straight up to finish the insult.

Look up, way up, or you will miss this one. We stood in front of it for a few minutes before we finally figured out that we needed to look up very high to see the cats.

This building is interesting as is the history of the cats on the roof and the direction they originally pointed in and why. It is worth visiting but you will only be there as long as it takes to take your photos.

We saw this as part of our walking city tour and it was hilarious to hear the real reason and the original positions of the cats' bottoms'. A must see if you have children with lavatorial senses of humour!

The house itself is impressive looking building representing the era in which it was built, some sculptures on the roof, but without any additional knowledge of the finer side of architecture, the building is quickly seen.
