The story behind this unique architecture tells of its Latvian owner who was denied membership in the powerful Great Guild; to show his displeasure, he built two cat sculptures on his roof with their backsides facing the Guild and their tails straight up to finish the insult.

We almost missed this attraction, because it does not stand out of the crowd. On the street level, it is just a nice house. The interesting part can be seen only if you decide to raise your eyes into the sky - you will notice...More

It would be such a shame to walk past this building and not to look up to see the two cats poised aloft. The history of how the intention to place them is amusing and shows that human relations have always had episodes of sharp...More

Amusing to see the cats on the towers. Read up before you visit, about the reason the cats face as they do!

Nice, but not as spectacular as expected. In the middle of the Old Town, which, by the way, is really worth visiting.

As visiting goes, I noticed cats on many of the souvenirs. So I asked my wife. So we asked a person or two for directions and were soon standing in front of the cat house. I enjoyed it. It's a pretty cool place.

Considering the cat is the symbol of Riga I was expecting this house to be more impressive. It is on a street corner and we nearly missed it, then looked up and saw the two cat statues, which were quite small

A unique landmark of Riga, with an interesting story behind those two black cats which raised so proud on the top of the building.

A real symbol of Riga, this is worth checking out because it will take you around the Old Town and let you see it at your leisure.

I saw the Cat House on the post card and decided to go and see it myself. I asked the Tourist Information Center and it could easily be found.
