The Narva Castle is one of the main attractions of the city. In the seventh decade of the 13th century, the Danes established a castle as a residence for the Danish King’s vice-Regent. The Narva Castle is the most diverse and best preserved defence structure in Estonia. The area of the castle is 3.2 hectares, and the highest point is the Tall Hermann Tower (51 metres). Today you can visit the museum in the castle, were the displays explain the history of Narva and the castle. There are handicraft workshops in the northern courtyard, where you can try your hand at various techniques and handicrafts.

One rainy day

We were probably the only two guests on this day, But we did like the time. View was awsome. The best idea of climing up on stairs :D

Visited the Narva Museu in the castle The castle is a real historic masterpiece with a lot of potential for story telling. As a guest not having a guided tour, it was just a collection of items from different times, several small exhibitions, but no stories told. Will be back for the live historical battle next summer with kids and... More

I visited the castle with my partner on a day trip from Tallinn where we based our holiday. It was a short walk from hotel Narva where we stayed for the night and I'd say 15 mins from the train station. We'd read a little about it before coming so we knew what it was all about and what to... More

Nice place to visit. Lots of history but if You go around without the guide it's quite difficult to understand what happened there centuries ago because there is just a little explained in English. Anyway, You can take a lot of nice photos of Russia and the Castle of Ivangorod.

Narva Castle is a really interesting and well-preserved place to visit. Guides are knowledgeable and friendly and there's plenty to see. The views from upstairs are great. I recommend that you get the double ticket which also allows entry to the Art museum on the other side of the city.

Reading about the Swedish king Karl XII who came to Narva in year 1700 I was curious to see the place with my own eyes. Knowing about the big battles for me the background info gave me a historical travel by mind.

From the tower, there is excellent views of the border with Russia. Some of the exhibitions were quite random though.

Really worth the ramble on the grounds, looking out across the ruins to Russia's Ivangorod Fortress and climbing Hermann Tower for an utterly amazing view at the top (you get a full view inside of the other fortress). The museum has exhibits of various interest- on the ground floor there is an exhibition of castles of the Baltics, with good... More
