My wife and I visited today as we were walking the Queen Charlotte Track. The cafe was okay but the gardens and various exhibits were very disappointing. Most were quite rundown and simply untidy. The place needs a good spruce up.

Shane the owner of Lochmara Lodge is a friendly self effacing man whose accomplishments belie his relaxed exterior. The lodge itself is nestled in a small cove on the shores of Lochmara Bay. Behind is a network of well conceived, well tended paths, steps and bridges that lead through areas of rain forest tree ferns 20m tall to ultimately join... More

The slice of paradise that is Lochmara has so much to offer, from adventurous swim with stingrays to Hammock-ville, zip line, heaps of wildlife and a great underwater observatory, you are in for a treat! Make sure that you book your departure from there as late as you can or you'll miss out!

Lochmara sits in the stunning Marlborough Sounds and is beautifully designed to take full advantage of its location. The rooms are spacious, very comfortable and well appointed. Their best feature however is their balconies with their stunning views. Plenty to do here, swim, kayak, bush walk ( either leisurely or serious walking along the Queen Charlotte track) and there is... More

After advice from sensible locals, I decided to spend my last day here. I used Lochamara's boat, which gives you entry. I paid extra to see the static boat with underwater viewing, which was well-worth while. The grounds are amazing, with all sorts of quirky sculptures and buildings, loads of hammocks, and even a very overgrown labyrinth. Well worth wandering... More

We were desperately trying to find something to do on the day a 6000 person cruise ship came in to Picton. Lockmara managed to accomodate us, and we had a lovely day exploring. We paid extra for the underwater boat, which was worthwhile. Our children, 7,5,1 all enjoyed it. The older children fed stingrays and we saw a lot of... More

We took our family for Brunch over the holidays and it was a lovely break. Food was delicious service good but a little confusing. One brunch was forgotten, but the mistake was swiftly remedied. Beautiful surroundings!

Everyone in the town of Picton raved about Lochmara lodge, and said it was a great place to visit with kids. And whilst yes, it was ok with kids, to be honest you can get the same sort of experience just wandering around the walking tracks around Picton. Admittedly we're no good with the whole touristy boat cruisers, instead preferring... More

We stayed here over Christmas and had Christmas dinner. The place is really great and the staff are all wonderful, so helpful and they seem to really enjoy working there. Our room was great, really big and spacious and had everything you need. We stayed in the Karariki rooms. Whilst we didn't have any problems with noise our room was... More

I did the afternoon cruise trip as I was short on time. Loved visiting this sheltered island. Lochmara seems a bit magical even though it is only a short trip by ferry from Picton! The staff leave you to wander around and explore, and there really is a lot to discover. Close-up encounters with the animals on the island and... More
