We were desperately trying to find something to do on the day a 6000 person cruise ship came in to Picton. Lockmara managed to accomodate us, and we had a lovely day exploring. We paid extra for the underwater boat, which was worthwhile. Our children, 7,5,1 all enjoyed it. The older children fed stingrays and we saw a lot of... More

We took our family for Brunch over the holidays and it was a lovely break. Food was delicious service good but a little confusing. One brunch was forgotten, but the mistake was swiftly remedied. Beautiful surroundings!

Everyone in the town of Picton raved about Lochmara lodge, and said it was a great place to visit with kids. And whilst yes, it was ok with kids, to be honest you can get the same sort of experience just wandering around the walking tracks around Picton. Admittedly we're no good with the whole touristy boat cruisers, instead preferring... More

We stayed here over Christmas and had Christmas dinner. The place is really great and the staff are all wonderful, so helpful and they seem to really enjoy working there. Our room was great, really big and spacious and had everything you need. We stayed in the Karariki rooms. Whilst we didn't have any problems with noise our room was... More

I did the afternoon cruise trip as I was short on time. Loved visiting this sheltered island. Lochmara seems a bit magical even though it is only a short trip by ferry from Picton! The staff leave you to wander around and explore, and there really is a lot to discover. Close-up encounters with the animals on the island and... More

An awesome day with lots of activities for everyone. We did kayaking, went for a bush walk, explored the park and fed parakeets.

I didn't stay at the lodge but came over for the day from Picton. I got the boat at 9am and returned at 5pm and found I had plenty to do. I added on a walk through a bit of the Queen Charlotte track (an extra $10) which gives you a taste of it. I really enjoyed the animal feeding... More

Spent two idyllic nights at Lochmara in the middle of our 4 week New Zealand trip. A great break from out North Island Travels and before our trip round the South Island. Comfortable room with balcony and great views across the bay. Lots of birdlife and the sculpture/art trail was fascinating and enjoyable. Excellent food in restaurant for breakfast, lunch... More

Owing to blisters and bad weather, we skipped the 23km section of the Queen Charlotte Track and boated it across from Mahana Lodge to Lochmara Lodge. We arrived 2 ½ hours early and were not expecting to be able to access our studio but nothing was too much trouble for “Jennie” who welcomed us from the boat, briefed us about... More

Lochmara Lodge was it worth the extra 3km from the track after a long walk from Punga Cove – YES. That last 45 mins from the track is a nice walk and suddenly just when you are about to collapse the entrance appears. We were met by the owners who were very friendly. We stayed in the smallest accommodation on... More
