Take just about any exit while driving through the desert and you'll get a much cleaner, natural, and rewarding view. You can also find places to pull over on the side roads to look closely at the beauty, and capture great photos. Evening is best as the colors change, shadows get long, and sunsets are various levels of spectacular!

I grew up near Buckeye so I am obviously partial to this area, but it truly is beautiful. Open landscapes make for amazing photography during the monsoon and rainy season. Bring lots of water and be prepared to face the desert during summer seasons

I drove out to see the desert national monument and it was really pretty boring. Just a drive with some cactus'. I can see cactus elsewhere.

Four of us had a lovely 5 mile hike thru the Sonoran Desert. It's greener than you would think. Many hills and dales...very pleasant and perfectly sunny. We decided on a path that wasn't too treacherous. definately wear tennies and watch where you are walking. We didn't see any animals, but a lot of different cactii and flowers on them.... More

Most people hear "desert" and think of something like the Sahara where it is just sand and sand dunes. The Sonoran Desert, located southwest of Phoenix, is quite the opposite; even in the hottest, driest part of the summer, it is very green and lots of creatures to be seen. The terrain is flat areas with deep, dry washes, with... More

This is a great place to learn about plant and animal life in the dessert. This is a huge place with lots of interactive experiences. My kids were amazed by this place! Wear good walking shoes, bring hats and sunscreen, and bring lots of water and snacks. I would recommend going early to avoid the heat.

I didn't know what to expect coming here, wear comfortable shoes and lightweight clothes because this is outside and a lot of walking is done. This place is huge, they had different types of animals that we could see, different types of plants, ect. They have a thing every couple hours to where they have the raptors take flight, so... You might think that the sonoran desert is dry and empty but after hiking through this monument I saw how verdant and full of life it is. For solitude and stark beauty this is the place to go. I first tried to take the Table Top trail in the southern section of the monument, but the road was washed out.... More

It's my first US trip and is one of the attractions I visited. It was my 1st desert experience and it was a great exposure! I went last Dec 2012 so even it was strikingly sunny the weather was very chilly and that gave us more opportunity to explore the desert/hiking trails. It was my 1st time to see gigantic cacti!

They have done an excellent job. The nature of the displays makes you feel like they are wild displays. It was well worth the stop. We will go back again.
