From our tour book advice, we took a full day to do this adventure of driving the Apache Trail! We did a loop out from Phoenix to Globe, down to Roosevelt Dam and Lake, and back to Phoenix via the Apache Trail and the town of Tortilla Flat. The approximately 25 mile drive from where the pavement ended shortly after... More

Ok, it's our fault. We didn't know it wasn't paved and we started driving it in late afternoon. After a few bumpy miles, we freaked out thinking we would be stuck there at night, thank god it was paved a few miles later. Stunning views but, honestly, didn't enjoy it because we were not prepared. If you do it, do... More

Great views!! You can do it in a small car but you have to go slow if you go all the wY to globe. The glen canyon dam is spectacular and well worth it.

We picked up a brochure at the Apache Junction Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center. It was called "Apache Trail TREASURE MAP." Now let me first explain that we are NOT from the Southwest, so the word "trail" has a different connotation to us than it must in the West. NOWHERE in the whole brochure is there any mention that... Unless you have a four wheel drive and not in a hurry, would I recommend you take this road. Beautiful drive! I live near here and there are many wrecks on this mostly one lane road. So be careful if you decide to take it, allow for plenty of time and as always when sight seeing in Arizona, take plenty... More

This trail has a great history, and is an exceptionally scenic drive with various lakes on the way before you get to Tortilla Flats. Building the Roosevelt Dam was the reason for much of this, but it is a widely used trail for boating and hiking A must do option!

Amazing drive through the Superstition Mountains. Views rival anything at Grand Canyon or Zion. Skip the tourist traps and just drive. Make sure your car is in good working order with a full tank of gas. Be prepared for a lot of bumping and jostling. When finished, hop over to Tonto National Monument and then take the Pinal Scenic back... More

Amazing and varied views as you drive along the road. Take your time and take it in. Stop from time to time at the atractions along the way most of the road is unmade, and a SUV is recomended, but normal sudans have no problems. There are some very narrow sections where you must watch what you are doing.

Drove the Apache Trail From Apache Junction to Roosevelt Lake. Having read reviews of this road we were a little apprehensive about driving this scenic trail. We found driving Hwy 88 not to be as terrifying as some reports have been. We suspect those types of reports come from people who have not done much mountain driving. In the 22... More

My friend and I did a roadtrip around the southwest america and the Apache Trail is in my top 5. it is an incredible landscape with a scary road with up, downhill and curve. The lakes are just beautiful you have the cactus, lake and mountain with lots of people having fun in boat or swimming. Plan your time because... More
