The drive through the redwoods was amazing! The trees are so huge and you can stop along the road in many places to get close! Founders grove is a good easy hike with kids.

Avenue of the Giants is a section of Highway 101 in northern California, approximately 30 miles long, featuring the most stunning coastal redwood trees you will ever see, plus various side-stalls, exhibits, tourist attractions, etc. In places the attractions are a bit gimmicky, but you...More

From Eureka (or cute little Ferndale) take the 101 south past Scotia, an exit for the Avenue. Small pitstops like Pepperwood, Redcrest, Weott and Myers Flat, these are mostly souvenir shops, a bar or cafe, not much not really towns, per se, but breaks up...More

Words can hardly describe the emotions one feels while walking through these giants. Although this was our destination, if you are driving North or South on Hwy. 101 in Northern Calif., Avenue of the Giants is easily accessible during a 30 mile portion. There are...More

Take the time to stop and take the short hikes around the groves. These trees are absolutely incredible. Many are 2000 years old or older. The sheer size awe inspiring. Make sure to stop at the Founder's Grove if you are only going to walk...More

We traveled down the coast along Hwy 1 for the first time and stumbled upon this when we found the Benbow Inn. This approx 40 mile treck thru the Giant Redwoods is engrained in my head. I can visually see these huge trees and the...More

The drive is about 20 miles long but there are many entry and exit points onto Hwy 101 if you run out of time. Pick up a leaflet at the North Entrance on the 9 stopping points. I would rate this above the drive in...More

We will be heading to this area in two weeks. It looks like you cannot drive the Avenue of the Giants now because the road is closed. Does anyone have more information on this? Thanks!

That's a surprise to me. I'd suggest calling the state or possible the best western in Garberville. The BW makes their money on that drive, they should know the answer

Hello! I am traveling with my kids in spring -- we are driving from portland to Crescent City to Trinidad to Ave. of the Giants--then onto SanFran. Would love to know best stops for hiking, places for staying and how to expose my kids to the amazing places of nature -- how much better they are than video games :) Thanks so much!!!
