So worth the detour. We were visiting Mono Lake and decided to drive the extra 40 minutes to visit Bodie. We were planning to stay for 30 minutes, we literally had no expectations. It was so awesome! The 4 of us absolutely LOVED it. We...More

We were glad we went but this was interesting rather than riveting. It is a nice place 8,500 feet up the mountains. Museum is not great neither is the shop Beware that the last 3 miles to the site are on an unpacked road

Bodie is an abandoned town, but you can still see many of the buildings, homes and businesses. There is a self-guided tour as well as a ranger talk and a tour of the old mill. It's very interesting and you could spend hours there!

If you're in this area of California, you should definitely visit Bodie. We were on a tight schedule so we couldn't stay as long as we wanted to. There is so much to see and it can very easily take up two or more hours...More
