Early Morning Bike Ride to the Dam

I know there are many bike rides to choose from in the greater Denver Metropolitan region, but I personally like a bike ride on Waterton Canyon. It's great for kids as there is plenty of scenario once you get into the Canyon. Total trip is 12 miles; 6 miles & 6 miles back. Great way to spend time with your... More

Lovely, wide walk ways. Good for biking and walking. Lovely rock formations and the Platte River goes through it

Recently I visited the Denver, CO area. My brother-in-law suggested a mild hike in Waterton Canyon on a Saturday morning. Usage was heavy by walkers, baby strollers, serious bicyclists, casual bicyclists, runners on a very flat route. The wide road is a fire break, going about 7 miles to a dam. My sister said the trail gets steeper toward the... More

Regardless of your interest, there is something for everyone in the canyon. You can hike, run or ride (bike or horse) in the canyon. You don't have to go far without a rest area or bathroom. The wildlife is spectacular. No dogs!! Unless it is a service animal.

Rode the canyon up with my two kids, 9 and 11, while the wife ran it. Beautiful scenery, wide dirt road up,(maintained by Denver Water) and got to see the big horn sheep at the end. Don't be one of the morons who tries to get close to the big horns as you try to take a selfie. Although if... More

Waterton Canyon is a very pleasant walk with no elevation, but however far you walk in, you'll be turning around and walking back out. If you want to make it to the end, you will either spend most of the day or you should bike. The scenery and rock formations are breathtaking and you will likely see bighorn sheep on... More

The Waterton Canyon trail is not so much of a "hike" as it is a trek, in that it's fairly flat but goes on for a gazillion miles. I was trekking with 10 long-distance through-walking companions on a 40-degree sunny Colorado afternoon, snow on the trail, but what an experience! The bighorns had come down out of the hills and... In Denver for a family wedding, a small group of us wanted to take a hike on Saturday morning before the festivities. Waterton Canyon was recommended to us. It was a decent recommendation. The 'trail' is really a service road that runs thru the canyon. We saw a lot of bike riders, and that probably would be a better way... More

great place to bike, hike walk, horseback ride etc., however, its been closed the past few weeks. unfortunately there have been bears in the area, and theres been idiots trying to take "selfies" with the bears barely 10 feet away!!! if people would keep their distance mabye they wouldnt have to close the place to the public!

This was a fantastic hike, only about 30 minutes from Denver. While this is a well-traveled hiking/biking spot, we saw a mother bear and 2 cubs and nearly 100 big-horned sheep. Very interesting hike along the river (even though it's a road). This is great for all ages and abilities of hikers and bikers.
