With all the rain this year, it is really green and lush. Yampa is close to flood stage, with lots of wetland and plenty of birds. Will be better in a couple weeks. Love the high mountain rivers and streams.

Bought tubes at Walmart for $22, blew them up at sports authority right by the river, floated to a bar, and took bus back. Not really for young kids, as it gets a little tricky in town, I got dumped and lost my wedding ring, oh well!

Hands down favorite thing my kids did while in Steamboat. Tubing rental place we used was Backdoor Sports. Positive reviews all the way. River was mild in August - no fears of wild water. Get a tube and ride the Yampa through Steamboat Springs.. some small rapids and we went when the river was about 451 cubic ft.. great place to stop for a drink while tubing is Sunpies.. about a 45 minute tube depending on where you put in... there is a rental place or two in town to get tubes if you...
