Drove up from Buena Vista in mid June and took in the beautiful views, watched a family sledding, and hiked around a little bit. Definitely worth the drive from BV!

Yes, about half of the road is currently gravel. Scheduled to be paved in 2017 - 2018. You can drive it with any type of vehicle. I did it on a Honda Gold Wing motorcycle. Well worth the trip.

We absolutely loved Cottonwood Pass (CR 306). We took it from the Collegiate Peaks Scenic Byway US 285. The elevation at the pass is 12,126' and the views are outstanding.

Beautiful drive through the mountains to get there. It's probably a 20 minute drive from Buena Vista. You are right above the tree line so you get some great views. It is a little chilly in October so you might want to bring a jacket...More

This road is closed every winter, and will be closed for all of 2017 - maybe longer. Currently the road on the west side of the pass is a gravel road with many curves - so a major construction project is starting next spring in...More

We had a local tell us this is a beautiful free place to visit! We were so happy we went and will be going back next time we are there!

If you're in the area this is a must do. Easy quick drive up to the pass with incredible views of the Collegiate Peaks and over towards Taylor Park Reservoir.
