We stopped at the Washita Battlefield National Historic Site in October, 2017. This site told the real story about the mistreatment and massacre of the Native Americans who use to reside in this area. Reading through the material in the visitor center really gave us...More

We stopped here and was greatly pleased with everything! The way everything was set up. The short movie, (that tells the history) and the walk down to the river. It was very relaxing! Definitely recommend!

We stopped at the Battlefield last month and found it to be a great and informative visit. They have a film that you can watch that explains what happened there and you can walk the site where the battle took place. All in all, a...More

A nice national park commemorating a terrible event in our history. Sad to see what the native americans went through in losing their land. There is a nice visitor center with a small museum that helps understand these events.

After two weeks driving the wide open spaces of the West and Southwest, it seems strange the the US government and it’s people all those years ago couldn’t find an accommodation with the native peoples. Too much racism and Manifest Destiny I guess. Places like...More

I had not heard of the Washita Battle so when we stopped I wasn't sure what to expect. There was a 30 minute movie that explained the battle and the events that lead up to it. If you are a history buff you will probably...More

Places like this educate us on how bad our treatment of our native peoples was. Custer- who history has shown us to be an egocentric hothead- slaughtered in the early morning hours a tribe of sleeping Cheyennes. Not our country's finest hour. Visit- learn the...More
