We wish we had planned to stay there longer, there's a lot to explore in this Black Hills area. After visiting Mount Rushmore National Park, we went to Custer State Park. On the way we saw the beautiful Horsethief Lake, great place to stop for relaxation and scenic beauty. The Cathedral Spires and Lake Sylvan in the Custer State Park... More

We absolutely loved the Blacks Hills of South Dakota. There is so much to do from Mt Rushmore, Custer State Park and the crazy horse monument. There are lots of cool little rustic towns with plenty of food, shopping and activities. While each little town has its own feel, Custer was our favorite. I would recommend staying at one of... We went to the Black Hills of South Dakota in the off season to see the sites. It was a great time even tough it was over cast and raining most days. This did inhibit us from seeing Mount Rushmore, too much fog. But all in all a great trip. The Bear country tour was worth the money, a neat... More

Part of the extraordinary topography of this state, the Black Hills with its fir and pine trees and ascent, just a beautiful counterpoint to the flat prairie and grasses and the craggy Badlands. This is part of the experience as you drive to Mount Rushmore.

Stopped for 3 days on the way to Yellowstone. A lot more to do than I anticipated, could spend more time here. Custer State Park is a must do, Mt Rushmore is nice. Hill City, Custer and Deadwood all are nice to walk around and spend a few hours in.

We visited this region as a retired couple. We had a good time, but many of the attractions are geared to families with young children. The area is beautiful but not as show-stopping as, say, the Grand Canyon or Yellowstone. It reminded me more of the Smokey Mountains.

Sure there was a shorter way to get where we were going but this was a GREAT opportunity to see more of our country with this car trip. We planned it specifically to see our country - the wide open spaces, the valleys and yes the Black Hills. The amazing Black Hills rise up near and far continue to offer... More

I'm from the eastern side of the United States and this was a awesome place to witness. It's nothing like around home. The mountain ranges are beautiful and the animals is something to see as well. A must see.
