Not to be missed if you want to have a feel of what it might have been like to be one of the first settler in the New World. The loop around the island is amazing, just beware of the horse flys as they have a nasty bite but they are well worth it to experience this piece of history.

I am a writer and photographer for National Park Planner (npplan.com) and I visited Historic Jamestown in May 2016. The park, a unit of Colonial National Historical Park, includes the original James Fort and settlement site (Old Town) and the subsequent town site known as New Town. Soon after the English colonists arrived in 1607 they set out constructing a... More

One of the most historic and amazing places to visit in the USA. If you are an American you must visit once in your life. If you are visiting from another country then this place is very interesting to see and learn where America came from. It was an amazing vacation. Can't wait to come back.

It's a relatively short drive (about 5 miles) round the island. There are quite a few places to stop and read about the history of the island, its people and nature. There is one short hike to a viewpoint near the river. If you look closely you may spot lots of different animals. We spotted a bald eagle and lots... More

Historic Jamestown and Jamestown Settlement are two separate sites. Each is part of the National Park system. Once you pay at one site you get in free at the other. I visited the Jamestown settlement first. There I used my NPS Pass for seniors and paid an additional $5. When I visited Historic Jamestown the site of the original Jamestown... More

Thoroughly enjoyable tour and very informative. It will mark a lasting impression of my trip to Virginia. Would hope to return one day to find out more about the archialogical discoveries of the original settlement. Well worth the trip from Louisiana.

From the visitor center displays and updated overview film, to the unique Archaearium (display of artifacts found on the site) this is the best National Park of the two dozen I have visited. The Archaearium actually makes archaeological items dug up on the site interesting and engaging. Very good food service inside the park, so don't worry about having to... More

Stopped to see the first successful English settlement in North America. It dispelled myths from grade school history and illustrated how hard life was for these first settlers.

Jamestown Island has history and lots of nature to enjoy. But this place is beautiful and quiet and sets your senses on full alert. I ride my bike here in the morning, I sit along the banks of the James River and watch the ferries go back and forth, I walk the 6 mile loop, I ride along the Colonial... More
