Had not been here in years, but took some out of town guests there for an afternoon visit. Much had changed since last visit. The architectural tour was most interesting. The guide (Jeff ?,) was fantastic! Gave great explanation of the digs going on in a manner understandable to the layman. The nonprofit that is doing the work there runs... More

Great for lazy daytime drive. Didn't stop at any of the buildings due to time. just drove around island and read the information signs. Great history and scenery. Plan to go back and visit the museums.

I loved walking through the sites where history actually happened. This is an active archaeological site. The museum of recovered artifacts is fascinating. They had a brief historical reenactment which added to the overall experience without detracting from the site itself. I was amazed at the dedication of the actors, wearing full wool and linen costumes in high humidity and... More

This is a fascinating place that brings you back to the very early days in our country's history and it was a nice reminder about facts that we learned or should have learned in school about how this great nation first began. The hundreds of artifacts that archeologists have unearthed through the years are beautifully displayed in a museum on... More

I visited the sites of Jamestown with my parents on a long weekend trip to VA to see family. We took a drive through Jamestown and Williamsburg on our way home from a weekend in Richmond. It was a beautiful day to just drive through the area and enjoy learning about places and attractions that we often hear about, but... More

Jamestown (initially called James' Fort) was the first, permanent, English settlement in what became the United States. The reconstructed Jamestown is not on that site. The site of the first, permanent, English settlement is a just a short distance from the reconstructed settlement and is a must visit place. It is jointly operated by the US Park Service and a... This is a wonderful education site for adults and children. There is a museum, archaeology area and great tours by archaeologist and park rangers. We spend several hours there. The site is lovely location on the river with wonderful views and beautiful breezes.

This is a joint project of the National Park Service and a non-profit. It is not as glitsy as the Jamestowne Settlement, but there is a good lecture with demonstrations, a walking tour, and a museum. Be sure to bring bug spray if it is warm-it borders a swamp. There is a fee which goes to continuing the research, but... More

we visited Jamestown in late March and the site has been maintained to give you a good understanding of the life of the early settlers. Worth a visit.

Several years ago my husband and I purchased the golden age pass to enter the National Parks for free. In the beginning, we went to Jamestown to walk all the time as it is really very lovely. Two weeks ago it was a lovely day and we hadn't been to Jamestown in about a year so we decided to walk... More
