The Lincoln Memorial should be on everyone's top 5 list of things to do in D.C. Yes, it is usually crowded with people, so unless you want to visit the little bookstore inside the base of the monument and see the displays there, I highly recommend visiting it later in the evenings, when most people have headed to their hotels.... Very busy with the public, but I highly recommend going during the night. It is free to the public and a great place to take photos. Also you can see where Martin Luther King Jr. made his Million Man march speech as they have the ground marker near the memorial.

I've been to Washington a few times and this is definitely one of my favorite spots to just sit and be alone with my thoughts. It can get busy during the warmer months, but I would suggest seeing it at least once. Just an FYI, there is a misspelling on the wall of the monument.

Fantastic place and in very close proximity to, as well as the Korean war memorial and Vietnam war memorial and the Martin Luther King Memorial

Take time out to read both Emancipation Proclamation as well as Lincoln's 2nd Inaugural address! It is so much more surreal to stand there and read these.

DOn't just go to see the statue, read the words on the wall. Amazing! Also the view is great to see so many monuments and iconic places in one eye shot!

This was by far our favorite. The memorial and stature itself was amazing but when you walk out and look across you have a beautiful view of DC.

Seeing all the monuments in DC is an awesome experience. It makes your history books come to life. D.C. Is a place everyone should visit.
