Take a camera. This monument is centrally located with views of the mall, the Capitol, and the Lincoln Memorial. Currently the Washington Monument is closed for entry indefinitely as the fix the elevator.

Hello - Unfortunately the inside of the monument is closed indefinitely because of earthquake in 2011 and ongoing problems with the elevator system - still impressive to see from the outside!

Typically cancellations are done at the Visitor Centrex or at the Park Rangers Office. I have seen it being done at Visitor Centrex in some places though I have not done it .
