Cover the ground on the National Mall from a bike. You can see and access everything with little or no trouble or cost. American History Museum, Air and Space, Holocaust Museum, Arlington etc . . . I especially recommend following the bike trail to the...More

We walked by it every morning - it's really huge and there were many activities going on every day for the five days we were there.

Every American should go there at least once. It is free to see all of our important monuments and the Smithsonian museums are free as well. It is all very impressive and makes you proud of our country.

Much larger than pictured in my head. I believe it's over 2 miles end to end. One disappointment there, it was overflowing with trash. Horrible to see this at such a meaningful place.

I was visiting DC and went on a long walk in the late afternoon. I ended up walking the length of the National Mall and was glad I did. There are a lot of museums and places to visit along the way. You could easily...More

More history here than in many cities combined. Visiting the museums is well worth the walk. Be prepared...wear your walking shoes. There are several transportation options but we enjoyed walking.

Fabulous at night ! Talking good shoes, you will walk a lot, but it is worth it. They were setting up for the inauguration when we were there so some views where obscured, but still loved it.

I'm amazed by this place and all its monuments and beauty. A little disappointing that there was a lot of construction work going on, but I guess that's needed. I was also surprised over how big the area actually was. We walked all around it,...More

Hi, we're flying in on a Monday afternoon in July from the UK and have the rest of that day and one full day. Can we do the Mall in one day and do you have any suggestions to get the most of our time with you please? We don't want to miss out. Thank you

You could do the actual mall (walking) in one day. If you plan on going to any of the museums, plan on 2-3 hours each to truly experience them. Don't forget the memorials, either. You may want to get in a tour bus to... More

I will be visiting Washington July 1-7 and want to take in all the 4th of July festivities - parade, Capitol 4th Concert and Fireworks. I just received an invitation from my Congressman for a tour of the Capitol at 2 pm on the 4th. Is it doable to see 1 hour of the parade (11:45-12:45), take metro from Federal Triangle to Capitol South and be at Congressman's office in Cannon building at 1:30 pm.

Perhaps but I wouldn't chance it. Safer to give yourself more time.

We will be in DC for a Saturday and Sunday only, last weekend in March, spending most of it in museums and on the mall. Will there be food trucks nearby on the weekend? Are we going to be limited to museum food courts? What about places off the mall but close enough that we aren't spending a lot of time walking out of our way? Mostly thinking for lunch ideas, two adults and 12 & 13 year olds. Trying to plan budget too.
