The Capitol is among the most architecturally impressive and symbolically important buildings in the world. The Senate and the House of Representatives have met here for more than two centuries. Begun in 1793, the Capitol has been built, burnt, rebuilt, extended, and restored; today, it stands as a monument not only to its builders but also to the American people and their government.

It's one of the most famous buildings in Washington D.C , you can see it from many streets but it's near from the library of congress.

I found the tour of the Capitol very interesting and engaging, whilst still being able to see the main sites. However, I would strongly suggest seeing both houses. As I am an international visitor, it was surprisingly easy to get into both the Senate and the House of Representatives. Yet in the Senate the information booklet given to us was... More

A must se in Washington. You can see our government at work. Go into the senate and house office buildings and meet your congressman. Set up an appointment or drop in.

The guided tours of the Capitol provide a lot of history about the building and US history. The Rotunda is especially nice. Good for every American (and visitors) to see this if you can!

Take the Capitol Tour. It is free and well worth it. Bring a wide angle lens to capture all of it inside.

Was lucky to catch a DC sunset against the Capitol building. The reflection in the water in front of the building is beautiful. This area is less crowded compared to the monument so makes for a quiet walk.

Make sure you go to your representatives office (next to the capitol) to get passes to see the Senate and House in session. Really interesting. All the people that worked in the Capitol (from tour guides to congressional staff to the Legal Counsel for the House and Senate) were extremely helpful and welcoming.

I was so impressed with the art and architecture of the capitol. I am not a big history buff but would highly recommend a visit inside the capitol. Our guide, Kathleen Gary, was very knowledgeable and had a terrific sense of humor. She guided us effortlessly through the crowds and kept us entertained all while helping us learn so many... More
