Overview
More
The Capitol is among the most architecturally impressive and symbolically important buildings in the world. The Senate and the House of Representatives have met here for more than two centuries. Begun in 1793, the Capitol has been built, burnt, rebuilt, extended, and restored; today, it stands as a monument not only to its builders but also to the American people and their government.

The US Capitol can be seen from many different directions. It is definitely a must see when in DC. I think the best view is from the National Mall. The other side of the building is blocked by fences and security, but all in all...More

This is a beautiful historic site in DC. The building is very well preserved and it's beautiful. The amount of history contained within its walls is worth the visit. Every single room of the building has an important part in American history.

Certainly worth the visit to see such a wonderful building. Shame we didn't get to see any famous people whilst we were there.. Maybe next time.

This is a must see. They have guided tours that are free and it is so informative regarding our country's history. The painting and the statues all have a story. I would do this again when I return.

We took a tour and although it was informative, it was long and drawn out. We enjoyed seeing the rotundra and all of the statues, but I thought we would get to see the chamber where congress meets and we did not. Neat building that...More

Plan ahead so you can book a tour through your State Rep or Senator. Unfortunately we didn't know that far in advance enough before our trip, so we were only able to see it from the outside. Great photo spot, located on the mall across...More

We booked a guided tour from the UK before we left. Unfortunately, the week before we went, I could not find the email with the tickets, so I emailed. It was no problem- the people were really helpful and sent me another confirmation email. When...More

We were in DC for our 10th anniversary, and my husband had never been to the Capitol. We took the 45 minute tour, and very much enjoyed the interesting tidbits of information our guide had. We also did the temporary exhibit which was interesting and...More

When in Rome, right? I went not expecting to be as impressed as I was when I toured the complex. It indeed is an amazing building but the thought of slaves helping to build it kind of left me with a slight bad taste in...More

It's worth a shot. The tour of the Capitol that I booked online was a little disappointing. It's very crowded and VERY noisy but the main problem was we didn't get to actually see the the floor of the Senate or the House... More
