The Capitol is among the most architecturally impressive and symbolically important buildings in the world. The Senate and the House of Representatives have met here for more than two centuries. Begun in 1793, the Capitol has been built, burnt, rebuilt, extended, and restored; today, it stands as a monument not only to its builders but also to the American people and their government.

We were lucky enough to turn up to the Capitol, get tickets and join a tour with only a fifteen minute wait. Im not sure how common this is though. After a short video explaining the history we headed for a tour around the building. We learned some very interesting facts and had a fantastic guide. It would have been... More

An icon on film and in photos, it is certainly better in person. We came in the evening and it was well lit. Due to the inauguration preparations for our 45th President, Donald J. Trump, we were not able to get as close as we would like, but I'm sure that we'll be back.

With nice weather this is the perfect place to hang around. From the fountain at the end of the mall, you'll get great views for taking pictures. Then walk around the Captiol towards the library of congress.

We wandered in, and took the next available tour. It was well worth it. We were also told that we could walk over to our Senators' offices (different building) and get tickets to see Congress in session. There's a computer terminal that helps you locate your Senators' offices. We made the walk, came back with tickets, and watched Congress the... More

What a beautiful building and what a great event. Handled huge crowds had the banners flowing, lots of TV's - it shows the US in such a favorable light. I am so glad we visited and saw the improved Capital Building. We were there 3 years ago and it is quite improved.

Amazing event of a lifetime. So many people there to witness the peaceful exchange of power in our nation. Regardless of what side of the divide you stand on democracy was celebrated.

I walk through the Capitol Grounds often. Many of the trees are labelled, including what state they come from. There are hawks and beavers on the grounds which can be seen occasionally. One warning, the hill is steeper than it looks. Take one of the more winding paths and sit when you need to (there are plenty of benches) if... More
