Overview
More
The Capitol is among the most architecturally impressive and symbolically important buildings in the world. The Senate and the House of Representatives have met here for more than two centuries. Begun in 1793, the Capitol has been built, burnt, rebuilt, extended, and restored; today, it stands as a monument not only to its builders but also to the American people and their government.

Visited in May 2018, but it was closed off for an event so could only get near the staircase. Lovely pool and gardens surrounding the Capitol.

If you are planning in advance, go through your senate office. The tour by their staffer will be way better than what you get from the regular visitor center tour. If you haven’t planned ahead, the regular will give you the highlights and is still...More

Went here as a family with teens. I would highly recommend the tour. We really enjoyed the film before the tour and the tour it’s self. Very informative.

For me, this is easily the most beautiful place in Washington DC. This stands opposite to Supreme court and Library of congress, however, the grandeur is easily noticeable. We got off from Metro on Capitol South metro station and then it is a 5 minute...More

This is yet another freebie in DC and you should take advantage of going through a guided tour of this historic building. To get into a session, though, you’ll have to contact your state senator or representative.

One of the guards stopped us on our way to the Library of Congress and asked if we wanted to visit. We got the last tour of the day and it was well worth it.

Very nice place. Nice walk area and green grass around. Looks pretty at night from far away. Nice pictures can be taken in front of the building where many discussions happen.

The view in this picture is actually the best vantage point to get a picture without other people in the picture. If you're lucky, you might get one in front without too many other observers.

The architecture is grand inside AND out, taken a a whole it is VERY impressive. Inside you'll need 2-3 hrs to take it all in, more if Congress is in session. This is a DO NOT MISS stop on you tour of DC.

It's worth a shot. The tour of the Capitol that I booked online was a little disappointing. It's very crowded and VERY noisy but the main problem was we didn't get to actually see the the floor of the Senate or the House... More
