I took the subway to get to the Basilica. It is a small uphill walk from the subway stop, but it is not bad at all. The Basilica is absolutely beautiful and awe inspiring. There are so many different things to see other than the main portion of the church. Mass in the catacombs was really nice.

The last time we visited we were fortunate to see the basilica in all its glory. There was a ceremony that the major organ, full choir and orchestra were taking part in. The church was full with many participants. Make sure you see not only the main church but also the crypt. With Christmas approaching the church will be decorated... More

The Basilica is easy to locate and has free parking. We rode Uber from Capitol Hill for a few dollars. To really absorb everything the church has to offer, I recommend a couple hours to really look around and even participate in the church services. Gorgeous inside and out, the quality and depth of detail is tremendous. The crypt church... More

Definitely worth a visit. A byzantine architecture known for its impressive grandeur. There is also a small underground chapel when you walk down the bottom stairs. Very large basilica with nice paintings and mosaics, also ancient statues and crypts. Similar to the Westminster Abbey but more colorful. Nice restrooms too. The Basilica is accessible via the DC metro transport system... More

Wonderful Mass - location and setting - good location and plenty of restaurants nearby for brunch. Visit the Chapel as part of your visit.

Such a beautiful church. So much to see in all the areas. Stain glass windows are beautiful and interesting the inspiration behind them. It offers a lot to see and guides explains history and what you see. Several famous people buried in the basement crips including Helen Keller. Even if you don 't attend church, attend the tour as this... More

The Basilica is indeed a wonderful place to visit. You can reach the Basilica by bus or by metro. When using the metro you have a 10 minute walk from Brookland/CUA Red line stop. There are approximately 70 beautiful chapels, dedicated to Virgin Mary, from all over the world. A mosaic for the interior of the Trinity Dome is being... More

It took me decades to appreciate this Basilica for its uniqueness and its massiveness. If you come to explore it, make sure you bring your walking shoes. The amount of chapels, large and small is impressive. This is NOT your classic European church; it is quite eclectic, and not surprising for Catholic University is well-known for its Architectural school. Its... More

What a great experience. My wife and I attended the noon service which turned out to be a choir service. Was truly amazing!! This was the first time visiting the Basilica and found it to be well worth the trip. If you visit, plan some extra time. Besides the beautiful upper church, the lower level and crypt areas are definitely... More

Massive Basilica is a must visit. Huge structure with incredible mosaics, statues, pieces of art everywhere. Free self audio tours available. Also have guided tours MON-SAT at 9:00 am, 10:00 am, 11:00 am, 1:00 pm, 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm. Impossible to see everything in one visit so don't even try. Excellent bookstore and gift shop.
