There are several visitors centers and outlets to New River Gorge. It's great for hiking, boating, fishing, etc. We even saw people planning to rappell the longest arch bridge in the western hemisphere. A definite stop if driving through the area---even if it's just to...More

Visitor center is nice and staff is friendly. Views are only ok though. For better views of the gorge, check out the Endless Wall Trail, just a few miles from the Visitor Center (you can directions and details on TripAdvisor and other hiking websites). We...More

Worth a stop if you are going to see the bridge. Informative movie played upon request at the visitor center.

After traveling all day, we arrived at the New River Gorge visitor center a few minutes before it closed. The kind park ranger allowed us to enter and use the restrooms before we made our way down the path to the observation area. The view...More

Made a 5 1/2 trip to West VA. Booked a hotel 2 nights before. Was planning to search the net for things to do. Unfortunately, for T-mobile subscribers there is limited data coverage there. First stop was New River Gorge National River Park, no additional...More

We took the Kaymoor Trail, which is rated "strenuous". They weren't kidding! There are 800 steps at the end of a .5 mile hike to see grown over coke oven...and 800 steps back up. Would like to come back here though.

I would not suggest driving hours out of your way to visit the Gorge, but it certainly is worth a visit as part of a total travel plan. The structure is impressive and the visitor's center offers beautiful overlooks of the north-flowing river in Fayetteville.

We did not spend too much time here but enjoyed the drive and the views. Everything is unspoiled and seems almost undiscovered (thank G-d). There are some nice hikes along the way and some waterfalls to explore as well.

Try Chestnut Creek Campgrounds in Lansing WV. I'm pretty sure they have tent camping but not 100% sure
