Many times over the years we have taken our grandchildren here and they enjoy feeding the fish. It's interesting to see and learn about the process of hatching, growing and releasing the fish. In addition, bring a picnic lunch - there are picnic tables in both the shade and sun. And bring a container and pick from the wild blackberry... More

This is your basic hatchery for steelhead trout and rainbow trout, but it is an enjoyable experience along the Mad River. You can feed the fish with fish pellets and take a walk around the facilities and have a good view of the Mad River. My kids always enjoy going there.

Was a good place to see the fish but we were thinking there would be more of a "hatchery" than a couple of fish "pools" Disappointing since we traveled out of the way to see it.

Just a cool place to watch salmon grow. It's fun to see them jumping up the fake stream and feeding them. you can then walk out to the river and enjoy the scenery and serneity

It's nice to take the kids here and see all the baby fish. Certain times of year the fish ladders are on and you can see them swimming upstream. Nice little walking trails along the river and giant beds of crushed oyster shells. The kids love to get the pellets and feed the babies and watch them jump. Some educational... More

We were vacationing in the area and were told it was a good place for birding. It was a hot afternoon but the birds were quite cooperative. We saw about 17 species in just over an hour. We would definitely go there again.

Our kids loved feeding the fish but were a bit disappointed that it was only one row that they were allowed to feed. It was 25cents to but Some fish food. Bring a cup !

It is so much fun to feed the fish. They swarm and create wonderful fishy chaos. The staff are happy to talk about their work and how to inseminate, raise, and distribute fish in lakes and rivers in Northern California.

We love the hatchery for it's many trails & river accesses. Walking up & down the hatchery rows is always interesting but I think kids would really enjoy it more than we did. We pretty much just park our car & hike out to an undisturbed riverside heaven. It can get busy out on nice summer days but somehow there... More
