We were here in late September to hopefully see some aspen leaf color and weren't disappointed. Nice easy hike with great views.

Perfect hike for beginners. you can choose to just go around half of the lake and then go back, or you can continue thru the woods. not much elevation gain. you'll easily burn up your phone taking pictures. not a bad view anywhere you look.

So we went up here in the office season, and according to their site you were supposed to be able to drive to the trail head and park close by since it was the off season the road wasn't supposed to have driving restrictions. Went...More

We have hiked over to Crested Butte from here taking us about 8-9 hours because we take so many photographs especially when we've done it in the fall.

Loved the hike. We did the shorter trail one day and then returned to hike to Crater Lake. Loved it. Not easy but not terrible. Hubby and I are 60 plus in decent shape but not athletes. We did fine. Just not a fast trip.

I have hiked Maroon Bells in the summer and it is unbelievable, but now I have snowshoed it in the winter and it is breathtaking! The snowshoe is 3 miles longer each way since they have to close the road in the winter, so make...More

Easy to get to, and very beautiful. Was a bit steep and had shale-type rocks in some places so best to take poles if a bit unsteady.

It is a very short walk to the opening. Parking and restrooms available. The water was crystal clear when we were there, and a great reflection on the lake. If you are in Aspen, it is worth the drive to the area.

Questions & AnswersAsk a question
Hello, we are headed up this weekend. Will the parking lot likely be packed or have the crowds dispensed? also how is the actual trial. Is it narrow or wide? we are tossing around bringing a jogging stroller in case our five year old gets tired. Would the stroller even fit on the trail? Is it very rocky? steep? Does the trail take you on the edge of cliffs or other things I would not want a child near? Are there places to the side of the trail where a child could play safely? Thanks!

I dont know about the parking but i can tell you about the trail. It is narrow at some points (need to move in a single file, one after another) and wider at other points. It is definitely rocky but not very steep. I mean... More
