Independence Pass was amazing. Of all the scenic highways we have driven in Colorado this rates as a favorite. The fall colors were just coming in. The views were fabulous. It is a must see drive. We drove it in our 22' Roadtrek and had no problems at all. Do not take this road if over 35'. We are from... More

After a short drive from Aspen, we were rewarded with the amazing views from the top. The drive can be a little hairy in spots, but is ok if you take it slow. Many amazing views and stops along the way like the ice caves. Kids loved it even though it was really cold.

Winding road through the mountains, wonderful relaxing drive. The pass goes up to the peak of some. Well worth the extra time to drive.

I sued to take Independence Pass into Aspen on many visits when I lived in Colorado...during the pass' "underdeveloped period". What a neat upgrade the years have offered to the pass - the highest navigable, paved pass (over 12,000 feet) in Colorado (not a mountain top like Pike's Peak and Mt. Evans, both at over 14,000 feet). The views are... More

I am a 52 year resident of Aspen, Colorado and have been over this Pass, at 12,095 feet, hundreds of times. I have taken 70 foot semis over, but only with a lead car and traffic control at the three narrow spots. It is now a $1000.00 fine for taking ANY VEHIVLE LONGER THAN 30 FEET IN LENGTH over this... This is the great continental divide between the waters to the east and west in Continental US. Spectacular view at the top and very picturesque

Luckily the road was open because it has been so warm this year. There was snow on the ground and the kids loved playing in it. The steep drop offs are farther along the trail and I felt safe with my kids out there.

It was a wonderful view to see the mountains and the valleys from high above. There is a sign that says continental divide at the top. The pass could be closed in the winter, so do visit while it is still opened. The scenery was amazing.
