We booked a trip to Altun Ha with one of the numerous tour booths at the Belize city waterfront. It takes about 40 minutes to get to the ruins from the port, but it gives chance to see a bit more of the country ....More

We've seen other ruins, but Altun Ha is one of the best. It is well maintained and restored most likely since it is the closest to Belize City. It serves well for cruise ship travelers to get there and back in their allotted shore time....More

My daughter and I toured this site with a guide and found it to be completely amazing. There are bathrooms there, but no other facilities. Well worth the drive to see these ruins. Highly recommended for anyone who is interested in history.

We visited Altun Ha as part of a shore excursion on a cruise. It was a very interested tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the ruins. It was nice to visit since they were close to Belize City.

We haven't had a chance to get to Lamanai. We vegged for most of 2 weeks on our last trip. The ruins at Altun Ha are nice but from what I hear, if you have the chance go to Lamanai. We will hit it next time.

It's very safe. Tour companies are best. There really are no crowds since the area is so large.

I would say they aren't that winding. At least not the route that we took. I don't recall any mountainous roads. I think your kid will be fine.
