We just entered the national park, when the weather changed from sunshine to rain and didn't change back for the next to and a half hours. So, we became totally wet and the trail was very muddy. So, don't forget a rain jacket and shoes...More

Let me first say this: you DO NOT need 4 wheel drive to reach the park if you are coming in via Bijagua. This was something I had seen in many places, but that is no longer true. We had a rental Hyundai sedan. The...More

The walk through the jungle down to the waterfall and river was so amazing, but the hike back up almost killed me = not convinced it was really worth it. Saw a family of coatis on the way back. Glad I wore hiking boots instead...More

Hiking here is fantastic. This is one of my favorite places I've visited in Costa Rica. When you catch the hike on a day it hasn't rained to much the night before, and with a little sun, the waterfall and river/lagoon are otherworldly, it's so...More

Went on a hike there. Awesome trails - can be very physically challenging. The waterfall was beautiful. Stairs and uphill/downhill can be brutal for people with knee problems, but sooooooo worth the hike.

We heard about this waterfall from the gentleman who takes care of the 500 yr old ceiba outside of Nuevo Arenal. We found the river on the map, and found a place close by to program the GPS. Just a warning - be very careful...More

Awesome park. Lots of wildlife and the falls are the most blue we have ever seen. We also saw lots of monkeys and tons of other wildlife

These are exactly the kind of spots I look for when traveling abroad (not touristic and beautiful). Very nice hike, no need for a guide (there are signs that tell you where to go) and no need to rent boots (the mud isn't that big...More

As far as I know it is open every day from 8 am to 4 pm.
Flying into Liberia and looking to explore inland for 1-2 nights then head to playa samara. Renting a car from the airport to head to the inland location for a few days- can yo tell me if this is an ok plan and about how long of a drive it would be from Liberia airport and also to samara? Appreciate it!!
