When you arrive at the Chichicastenango market you will start the walking tour. This is located in the center of the town and is the heart of the commercial life of the Maxeños, the natives of Chichicastenango.
Every Thursday and Sunday, merchants head to the central square to sell their products in this impressive indigenous market that has changed very little over the centuries. Explore the narrow streets and admire the products and crafts offered by the locals.
In Chichicastenango you will also visit the church of Santo Tomás, built in 1540 on the basis of a pre-Hispanic temple. This is a magnificent example of colonial architecture and the Mayan and Latin influence is evident inside and outside the building.

My wife and I just returned from our 10 day trip to Guatemala. I feel we were very lucky to select GTM Travel to make all arrangements for us at very short notice (2 weeks) for a trip during busy time between Christmas and New Year. After my initial email that Hector has responded to almost immediately I just sent a raw list of places we wanted to see and the activities we wanted to have. Hector did the rest. Normally I would do planning and booking myself well in advance, but during Covid you better have help from a local reliable company like GTM if you want your visit to be smooth and worry free. You need someone who knows what is open and what is closed, which tour companies continue to operate after months without work and which didn’t survive the closures. Hector has designed a program for us based on our desires and provided a nice car with a very professional, punctual and overall really nice driver (William) for a whole duration of out trip. Hector has booked all the tours and accommodations for us as well. We were communicating with Hector over WhatsUp during the trip. He was checking if everything was fine and we were getting the immediate answers when we needed to clarify a few things. Our plan was packed with adventures and activities (that’s the way I prefer to travel). In just 9 days we did: Semuc Chamey tour (2 nights); Antigua city tour and Pacaya volcano hike; Acatenango volcano overnight hike; Chichicastenango town and market; Atitlan north shore hike and Rostro Maya hike. All that with private guides and private boat transportation on Atitlan Lake. Hector has also provided restaurant recommendations for us so we had an excellent dinner on our last evening in Antigua. I would recommend GTM Travel to anyone who is willing to see the best of Guatemala in most efficient and comfortable way.…

My wife and I had the pleasure of using GTM Travel Services on a recent 8 day trip to Guatemala. From the initial pick up at GUA until our departure, Hector arranged a customized tour based on our interests, which were to bypass some of the normal tourist stops. We had the same driver and guide (Juan and Hector -- an employee of Hector the owner) each day. Juan was an expert driver and Hector was incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiastic about his job and his country. We had many experiences that we never would have had, had it not been for Hector who seemed to have friends everywhere we went, and that led to some special times. When my wife and I return to GUA, we will definitely use GTM. You will find that Hector the owner responds quickly to emails, is very accommodating to personal preferences, and is a phone call away throughout your trip (we never had to call him, but he called to check on us).
