This is a great collection to see before or after the main ruins. It may be more meaningful to see the ruins first. Nice collection. Good English signage. You need 1-1.5 hours to see it all. Highly recommend.

Many of the original art from the archaeological site actually is kept in the museum. The museum is well-designed and very spacious to offer visitors a great experience. The quality of the exhibits is high, and they are generally well-described. I would recommend visiting the ruins first. This allows you to see the artifacts in the museum within their larger context.

Since my last visit, some of the interpretative signs have been removed or lost. The sculptures are still amazing, but it was more interesting before when I could read more about the various pieces.

This is a world-class museum featuring the some of the original structures of the Copan Ruins and other fascinating features, including an impressive replica of the Rosalila Temple. A visit to the Ruins of Copan is not complete without a visit to this museum.

Superb on-site museum of archaeology - some reproductions, but other exhibits eg. the Altar Q are the originals, with the reproductions in the site itself. They have also reconstructed an exact replica of the Rosalila temple which is actually buried under one of the temples on the site.

The Sculpture Museum is located in front of the Copan archaelogical site and is an absolutely must to visit once you are there. It holds many original stelae as well as other stone art pieces from the ruins, all placed in simple but very well conceived settings. The building in the middle of the museum is a fantastic natural size replica of an building discovered intact under the main temple of Copan. You can easily spend two hours or more admiring the magnificent sculptures made by the ancient Maya. Enjoy it!

After going through the ruins, take a break and grab a snack as beverage at the cafeteria - you'll need it. Then stop through and see some of the originals that were at the ruins. From the outside, it doesn't look like much but they've done a nice job of conveying a sense of the majesty of what the sculptures must have been like. The only thing is I wish it would be lower priced as some people may not see this as worth the price.
