The Heart of Town

Great place to browse. Food vendors sell inexpensive tostadas & corn on the cob. Most of the shops & restaurants are on or near adjacent streets.

The Central park of Copan is the center of activity for the village but there is more to it. On the west side of the park there is the Municipality Building, tourism office and the Town Museum. Inside the Municipal Building there is a photography exhibit done by Harvard which chronicles excavations in the Copan Valley 100 years ago. The... More

Copan is tiny and the town square is tiny too. There's almost nothing to see here except a small church and souvenir shops, surrounding the concrete laid square. Many locals hang out here, which makes it quite lively, but there's very little to see or entertain.

Quite charming town. Copan is simply a beautiful place. Paved with cobblestones and lined with white adobe buildings with red-tiled roofs. The locals there are so friendly. Wish I had more time in that place.

Thus is a new square in a town that owes it's life to the excavations. More interesting for the museums and cafes around it, the square has some new and unusual sculprures. But little shade to protect ftom the hot sun.

This is a very social town, the local people meet together here. I love to eat fresh mangos, that are sold here.

Not really sure why this is listed here? It's the main square of this little town. It's nice enough but really isn't why you come to Copán Ruinas. The banks are located around here and it's centrally located in the town.

This main square is a great place to begin your exploration of Copan. It is a comfortable place to sit, grab a light snack and even decide where you want to stay when reviewing your map. Watch out for Darwin the moto taxi driver... very rough voice, speaks English. He is a very pushy and rude man, I do no't... More

The town has an almost Spanish feel about it. There are plenty of shops, western style restaurants and the locals are very friendly.

Copan Ruinas is not a very large town and the square reflects that. Surrounded by streets with hotels/restaurants/bars/shops that cater mainly to tourists, the square is more where locals hang out. You can do a bit of people watching, catch a pedi-cab, pop into one of the museums during the day, or simply stroll about. Just don't get your hopes... More
