Iglesia de la Merced is a beautiful church to see. Near the Universidad Nacional Autonomia de Honduras, it sits on top of a hill with a great view of th ecity below. There also is a monumnet to John Paul II. I would recommend visiting the church and then the university.

If you like historical place, get a local to take you to visit this place. Has even older historical church right next door. In small neighborhood.

You can feel the years of history as you walk inside. The statues all date back to colonial times and are lovingly cared for and dressed by volunteers, to keep them breathtakingly beautiful.

Representative of Spanish colonial architecture. Great to spend some time (day only) wandering inside of the church, but don't go walking in the area.

All done in gold and pastel colors, looking like the painters finished yesterday. and in front of it a square with a fountain kids can play in, statues, and surrounded by tiendas where you can get your souvenirs, and listen... This area was renovated recently. The inside of the church is absolutely gorgeous, worth the visit just to see the inside woodwork of the altar. It´s also safe to visit now after the renovation.

Easily accesible. Nicely decorated, especially during Christmas time when they place color lights on its front view. Appropriate place to attend a weekday service. Parking accesible on its side.
