You will be suprised to see this on the side of the highway in the middle of a field of corn or whatever is being grown this year. It is a modern art horse, that legend has it, and no one is telling any other, that students complained so much about it they dropped it off in this field, it... More

The legion goes that it was placed here by the University of Georgia. The horse was a piece of art that was on campus at UGA where students would abuse it by rolling it in toilet paper and writing graffiti on it. This horse now serves as a mile marker at the Greene - Oconee County line on GA Hwy... More

If you're driving Highway 15 south of Athens you'll see a large iron horse sculpture out in a field. I had no idea of the significance when I came upon it but it has a fascinating history. It was created by sculptor Albert Pattison, an artist-in-residence at the University of Georgia, and placed outside of Reed Hall on the UGA... More

Visited on New Year's Day, 2015, shortly after sunrise, as fog was rolling over the field. Here are exact directions, which I have YET to find on any site: From the HWY 129/441/15 intersection in Watkinsville (Jittery Joe's coffee house and Golden Pantry) turn South on 15 for 11.6 miles. As soon as you cross the Rose Creek Bridge, entering... More

It's not worth a long trip to see it and in the summer it is hard to locate at times depending on the height of the corn, but if you are headed down Hwy. 15 be sure to look for it.

The Iron Horse is a neat thing, but I actually think the beautiful farm it sits on is more spectacular. The crops are beautiful and until recently, there was an old stone silo standing on the property. The University owns this farm, so I don't think they mind people approaching the horse. This is a beautiful setting at sunrise.

If you are in the Athens area and don't mind a drive of about 30 to 40 min down highway 15 south of Watkinsville you will see a large iron horse standing tall and proud in a corn field. It's worth stopping and admiring and is especially spectacular at sunrise, but anytime of day is good. It was moved from... More

If you are traveling towards Athens, you encounter a bend in the road and a farmers field. In the middle of the field stands the Iron Horse. The first time we passed, my wife and I admired the horse at 50 mph. One our trip home we turned into the entrance to the field (the no tresspassing signs make it... More

This was a fun find in the wilderness of rural Athens! We loved walking up to this giant of a horse and touching the sculpture. (a note of caution, I believe this is on private property as the field was full of crops.) please be respectful and do not disturb the crops. This is a must see. I love the... More
