There were locals set up with 4WD trucks that you could pay $15 per person to ride to the green sand beach. However, their existence kicked up a ton of dust in the face of the hikers, not to mention they have destroyed the surrounding...More

This is a treasure of Big island... This beach 'of the end of the world', along the wildest South coast, seems to be unreal. After a walk of 2,5 miles (it seems more the first way, but...) on an easy but dusty, windy and very...More

This was such an amazing experience. This is only one of four green sand beaches in the world and it is the most southern point in the United States. Knocked a couple things off of our bucket list right there. The beach is beautiful and...More

You travel turn onto South Point Road from Highway 11 and 10 miles to a fork in the road. To the right takes you to the southernmost point of Hawaii. To the left takes you to the parking area (only about half a mile down...More

The beach itself is gorgeous! However, it is a long (about 1 hr), hot, windy hike. Once you arrive, you also have to scale down a cliff to reach the beach. Also, the sand has only a hint of olive green. Despite the long trek,...More

Paid the locals $15 a person to drive us there rather than hike the 3 miles; quite an interesting off roading experience. The beach itself is beautiful but the sand is not really green unlike the red sand beach in Maui or Santorini which are...More

This hike isn't too difficult, but make sure you come prepared. You should wear shoes that are comfortable to walk it. There were a few families on the trail trying to walk in flip flops. That's a good way to roll your ankle. I recommend...More

My husband and I hiked this. Is it worth it? Sure. I can't say it was fun, it was very windy and sandy but we are from Colorado so like to suffer a bit. It's 2.8 miles each way. Wear good shoes, have water. We...More

Some of these reviews I agree with, others I just roll my eyes at. The drive to get there: It's a long journey across the island but you can see many beautiful sights and small towns or villages, so it's worth it. Parking: Yes, there...More

A lot has been written about this beach and we were hesitant in going because we couldn't work out how tough the journey would be and if we would be able to make it fully to the beach. My level of fitness is limited to...More

The cost is for roundtrip. Our driver asked us how long we planned on staying. I am unsure how late the drivers hang out for. We were there mid am. As they are just locals, there is no "open/closed" time. We stayed about an... More

You could make arrangements with someone in the parking area for a specific time to pick you up before you head off hiking. Times are random. They basically wait until they have a full vehicle to make a run.

Yo cannot miss them they are in the only parking area for the beach which is a few miles away. Your GPS will get you to the parking area and they will meet you as you drive in.
