Yes there are chickens everywhere, its great fun to see them and around april there are loads of chicks, we like chickens so it was no problem for us, however perhaps some people who are a tad scared of chickens might not find it so pleasing...we did and it made the beach afternoon quite good fun. The small lagoon that... More

We have been to Kauai numerous times as a family and have spent a fair amount of time exploring kid-friendly beaches on the island for our twin 5-year old boys. Lydgate is a winner for several reasons: -Easy access and parking -Relatively uncrowded -Seawall that creates to two pools for swimming and snorkeling free of big wave action -Decent snorkeling,... The best place to swim when the surf is so high that it will kill you if you try to swim anywhere else. The beach itself is unspecatcular, but the reef protecting it makes it ideal for little kid swimming.

This park was a pleasant surprise. At one end of the park is a fun "bridge" for the kids to explore. It's right on the beach so we then explored the beach and found some fishing boat items that washed ashore. Walking to the other end there is a nice swimming area which is protected by a rock wall which... More

Park in one of the main areas and the park is huge with restrooms, a campground (needs reservations), a playground at one end for kids, lots of beach area, and the park it literally goes on for a long time so after you park at one end, make sure you drive to the other end to see that too. We... More

I spent a lovely day at Lydgate, reading and relaxing, at the less crowded end of the beach where there is also some shade. If you have children, this is a safe beach for swimming with a couple enclosed swimming areas.

We wanted to find a good swimming beach. Visited Lydgate on a Monday - not too crowded - a sea turtle and monk seal were enjoying the warm sand. Calm, protected swimming area on one side - waves on the other. Wish we'd taken snorkel gear.

It's supposed to be a relatively calm beach but on the day we visit it had big waves. Water is clean but not that sandy. Good facility though with shower and changing area

The first time that I ended up here, I was with friends who live on Kauai. I didn't realize I would end up in a sacred Hawaiian place that day. Sacred? Yep, there is a Heiau in Lydgate Park :) Very nice surprise indeed. There are picnic bench's here and plenty of space to lounge. Nice shading in some areas... More

During our recent month long stay in Kauai, Lydgate was our favorite beach. It was a safe place to swim and snorkel and just sit back and enjoy such of a special place. We joined locals with their Saturday morning beach clean up -- the least we could do.
