Its as beautiful as the reviews state. My husband and I swam at the Hamoa beach on our recent visit to Maui. The water is so clear and the beach is a lovely gold color. Very safe. not too crowded.

Amazing 500 feet of cove…stunning colors, great shade and lots of sun. Wonderful place for families to enjoy the water with some care, of course! No lifeguards. Recently, human remains of people from here long ago were found, so markers have been placed on the grassy area. It is a sacred spot. It is a place to stare out at the Big Island on a clear day! There is a shower to rinse off and porta potties. Lots of all kinds of people! Never too crowded! A treasure!

Nice beach with several "gravesites" of early peoples to Hawaii. It seems very protected, also. Glad we stopped.

We stopped by Hamoa beach for a dip and some rest. There are lots of trees by the beach, which provide some nice shade. The water was pleasant and easy to enjoy. Parking is along the road above the beach - we had to walk a bit to the stairs down to the beach, but it was quite manageable.

Fairly clean beach. They had a port a potty and 1 outdoor shower. There’s only street parking above and it can be tight. We saw folks snorkeling and swimming further out. There’s swings under the trees on both sides of the beach. Water overall kinda murky with plenty of seaweed. Waves were not strong and you get great views of the island

My family came here one late morning in January for a quick visit. It was relatively quiet and incredibly scenic, with clear, beautifully hued water and huge, fun waves. Due to weather and surf conditions, the water here was much nicer than the our experience in Wailea afterwards.
Some folks were surfing but unfortunately we didn't have boards with us. My kids had a blast body-surfing. Would definitely recommend if you have the time. I wish we had stayed in Hana 2 nights so we could have more time here.

Crystal clear water. Good waves. Lots of shady spots available. Water to rinse off. Several steps to get down to the beach. Parking is a big issue. Not many spots available.

The only thing that was missing from this beach for me was lifeguards. I've had it drilled into me since childhood that you don't go into water with serious waves without one. That said, if big waves are too much for you, if you stay to the left, the waves are much smaller. Then it's fun to watch the surfers further to the right. After being annoyed by tradewinds in the West and South side beaches, this was heavenly. The water is a beautiful blue/turquoise/green and the sand is a mix of golden and black - and very soft (unlike the other black beaches I've seen).

One of my favorite beaches on Maui! Blue and green clear water with perfectly shaded areas that allow you not to bring an umbrella. Just enough parking for the beach not to get overwhelmed! Get their early. It’s located at the end of the road to Hana!

The break here is unpredictable. We are of the opinion that only the very fit olympian can enjoy swim here.
