Don't let being somewhat off the beaten path deter you from experiencing this powerful sacred site run by indigenous people. It is the largest Heiau, (traditional Hawaiian temple) in all Hawaii with a tremendous history both in its origins and recent past. Have you heard the word, "Mana"? This is where you will feel it surrounded by the ancient presence... More

This Heiau, an ancient Hawaiian temple or sacred site is along the Hana Highway in the Kahanu Gardens. Just outside of Hana, this is a lovely spot.

The Piilanihale Heiau is the largest Heiau in Hawaii (almost 3 acres about the size of two football fields). Recommended stop on Hana Highway tour. It is truly spectacular and the botanic garden surrounding was more interesting than anticipated,

This is part of Kahanu Garden, so I'm not sure why it's a separate entry. There's no way to get to the heiau without paying to enter Kahanu Garden. You are not allowed to climb it, but the views of it from the garden are impressive. It looks well maintained.
