The Nuuanu Pali State Wayside is a lookout above the Pali Highway tunnels where you’re treated to a panoramic view of Oahu's Windward side with sweeping views of Kaneohe, Kaneohe Bay and Kailua. It’s also well known for strong tradewinds, forming a natural wind tunnel of sorts. It was here in 1795 that Kamehameha The Great conquered the island of Oahu in one of the bloodiest battles in Hawaiian history. Led by Kalanikupule, the defenders of Oahu were driven back up into the valley where they were trapped above the cliff. More than 400 of Kalanikupule's soldiers were driven off the edge of the cliff to their deaths 1,000 feet below.

We visited as part of an island tour so only spent around 20 minutes here which, to be fair, was enough to get photos. As most other reviews have said you'll be "blown away" by the spectacular views though hang on to your hat, child,...More

The vistas and views from this lookout are breathtaking. Be prepared to be blown away literally though. The winds are high and strong.

It's right off the H1. If it's rainy though like on the day we went just a few weeks ago it is foggy once rain clears and kind of ruins the photos and view a bit but still nice. Just 3 bucks to park, not...More

A very panoramic view at an historical sight. Does get very windy at times but some excellent photos can be taken. Make sure you pay for parking (it is only $3) as they do patrol,

Check the weather before going. The views are spectacular on a clear day, but the wind can be very strong and make viewing difficult.

No admission charge, but they do charge for parking. Also do not leave your valuables in the car.
