Happy to have seen this unique gate
Feb 2021
A landmark that can't be missed in beautiful Fés, it's one of those things that needs to be seen in real life, to appreciate them more, because a picture doesn't make justice to its beauty!

The Blue Gate
Feb 2020
For most visitors the exodus into the Medina brings from here. The name refers to the blue tiled face of the gate. The gate is beautifully decorated with blue tiles on the outside and green on the inside, giving it an aqua hue. It is the start of the two main Medina lanes called Talâa Kebira and Talâa Seghira. This is where most cafes, food stalls and craft shops are located. This gate was built in 1913. It is an excellent place for seeing the Medina hustle bustle, people watching and photography.

Elaborate Gate
Jul 2019
Bab Bou Jeloud is the very elaborate gate to the Medina, the souk, the market place. This Gate is not really very old, but was in fact built in 1913, to replace the much older, original Gate which dates to the 12th century. The original gate is still there, right next to the new gate, and you can still see it as it lies to the left as you enter Bab Bou Jeloud.

Nothing but a colonial edifice
Dec 2019
At first I was impressed by the beauty of the blue decorated facade, but then the guide told us it was built by the French in 1915 or so. That was the moment when I realized that my house is few years older than this "false" gate. Anyway, don't be so keen to visit this place as it is a total disappointment, as well as the overrated "slum-like" city of Fez.

Main entrance of city.

The Blue gate or Bab Boujloud is only the main gate that takes inside old medina and nearby there are plenty of place to find food. Once you go inside Medina through gate you will go back few centuries to a very lively place where you can local people, simple life and tannery factory.

One of the main door to get in old medina. It is a good get to take photos and easy to find food near by to eat. Very Safe too. Highly recommended

Perfect
Feb 2020
I visited Fes for the first time last week with some friends. Always wanted to go and finally got the chance.

Our visit was only for 2 days so we decided to stay in the old city of Fez to get a real feel of the old culture.

Our hotel was perfect for our stay. £20 a night for 2 WITH breakfast. You just cant go wrong.

Yes it didn’t have the view one would experience in Dubai or the fancy bathroom but it was perfect for us. Great staff, really nice breakfast and it was right in the heart, making everything convenient to access. I dont have much hair myself but they did have a hairdresser across the road, currency exchange next door, a shop to get drinks etc next door too and many coffee/tea shops within walking distance.

If you go and you really want to experience the life in Fes, this place for a few days will be just fine but only with the lads not family and kids.
