This is a very different area with lots of different types of leather tanneries. It's easy to find to the NE of the souls but people will insist on helping you and then ask for money when you've done. You are also steered to expensive shops. Despite all that it's well worth seeing but be ready for dreadful smells.

Okay, don't believe the fairytale about the Berbers who will come to the Tanneries, but you can read that everywhere. It is an interesting (but awful smelling) place to visit, where you can see how the Tannery process works. Be aware of the people hanging around, they aren't helpful but only want money :)

The tannery in Marrakech is not a place I even wanted to visit. That said, my friend and I got talked into checking out the tannery because a young man, who told us all about how he had lived in Brooklyn for three years, bla, bla, bla, said that we just had to go there today because there is a... I fell for the tannery scam today. I was approached by a guy who gave a song and dance about a special day today. Without thinking, I started walking in that direction before I was joined by a teenager from out of nowhere. He took me to the place where I saw other people being led. I was greeted by... More

We saw the tannery from the top of the UNESCO World Heritage building. It was raining and the tanneries where not that busy so the smells where not as bad as I had expected. We were offered a so called "free guide" to the tanneries and a very hard sell to buy some of the leather goods. We walked out... More

Not a place to go, scammers everywhere wanting money for a tour of the tanneries that you don't even know your going on! ...too far out of the city for tourists, I felt very scared and uneasy there, and it was difficult to find our way back. Definitely not a place for tourists!!!!!

It can be dangerous - avoid in any case, don't believe any tales about the "berber leather market". These ones are rascals - they demand large money after the so called "free guide" to the tanneries.

These are the only authentic tanneries in Morroco, as the ones in Fes have renovated last February 2016. One can smell hem from afar , so be prepared for the smell. On the whole this is a must do while in Marrakesh.

My boyfriend and I were let there thinking that we're gonna see the berbers' market. Unfortunately, a guy misled us to a terrible place where we saw leather everywhere - the smell was disgusting. After the tour the guy wanted from us 200 dirhams which we didnt pay as he said at the beginning that it was for free. Be... More

A very slick operation meant we were sheperded to the tanneries without realising what was going on. The shop there has some really nice stuff but the prices are very high, even after 30minutes bartering! When we left (despite spending over £100 in the shop) the "guides" demanded money - 50Dirham each for the tour. We gave them 50 total... More
