They don't make 'em like this anymore. Even if you don't watch a film, the lobby is a great place to hang out on the Grand Socco and sip coffee or mint tea surrounded by hip, artsy locals and ex-pats. But for only 25 dhms, why not watch a movie? They have a well-curated roster of new, indy films as... More

The Cinémathèque de Tanger is one of the trendiest hang-outs in town for young artsy locals and cinema lovers alike. The programmation is on par with art house cinema worldwide, there's a café on site and the vibe and decor (not to mention free wifi) makes it a place you'll want to come back to as well.

This wonderfuld faux-art deco palace might very well be the best cinema in Africa - situated right where the Ville Nouvelle meets the medina. The programming is high brow in the best sense of the word. In July you can attend a retrospective with films by the Iranian auteur Asgher Farhadi, whilst your kids are in the next room (the... Its a cool place. Cheap and cheerful as a cafe, showing films of quality aimed at film lovers. The cafe is a place gathering the cool crowd and a nice spot to take energy before going into the Medina.

Look for the Cinema Rif - AKA le Cinémathèque de Tanger - under "Things to do in Tangier, and you won't find it. It's under the rubric "Fun & Games." If watching new and classic European and American films, hard-to-find Moroccan and Arabic releases (with French subtitles) is fun, well, I can't argue. But there's not a game to be... More

We stopped in here to get a break from the rain. What a pleasant surprise. This historical gem is like taking a step back in time. The only working theater in Tangier, this place is a meeting place for locals, expats, etc. Order their mint tea, sweetened (the best we had in Morocco, with orange blossoms), their chocolate cake/brownie (like... C'est magnifique! Je l'adore! Great job done on restoring this beauty of a cinema! There is a super little cafe space also with cheap tea, cafe and little cakes and quiche. Wifi is available and its safe for women, there are students working, or its peaceful to read. Must visit!!

This is one of the meeting points in Tangier. I personally prefer this place for its cafe. I enjoy it more in the morning though I often visit in the evening. Tea is nice and the workers are good. The waiter Said is a nice guy. You can get some tips from him about the city if you need to.... More

Interesting cinema in an old building with a nice café inside and a limited offer of relatively recent movies in original version subtitled in French. The projection room is big, the sound is acceptable but in the winter it is quite cold inside, so ask for a blanket.
