Though giant Aldabra tortoises are the only permanent residents of this peaceful island, tourists visit daily for sunbathing and snorkeling.

30 minute boat trip will take you across to prison island. The prison was the landing post for slaves in transit. Sobering reminder of the past.

What a lovely place? Beautiful scenery and you can see the green sea which is what made my day visit great. The prison island has tourist guides which explain to you about the history of the island. And don't forget the tortoise... You can feed...More

I did some research after reading the reviews. It confirmed the mistreatment of the Tortoises and appalling waste of a resource. It seems no one has firm control of this asset and by supporting it in its current state will only lead to deterioration of...More

The idea of this place, and the reality are two separate things. They're protected here, nice, but I must question the quality of life they have. Could be fantastic, but like much if Zanzibar, it's seen better days.

This can be an interesting site to visit but during our visit there was no guide to give us some history of the place.

We had that visit planned, and we can said to have high hopes. We booked a "captain" from our hotel, yet there are plenty that approach you and off to take you across. I believe that bargaining through hotel is the best. We crossed a...More

Just walk on the pier along zanzibar town, there will be several "Captains" willing to take you over the prison island, you can bargain the price since you will only need the ride,
