This is a fascinating place for people looking for a "genuine" experience. The people are friendly and the place is bustling. Don't look at the way meat and poultry is sold. Suspend your rich western sensibilities, don't make comparisons with your local supermarket and appreciate the whole natural human interactions.

I've been in many local markets and some we expected to find good handcraft. Here most of the products are imported. Prices are okay. You will find some nice things to buy as food if you are willing to cook (prices are really good for local products) and avoid it at the time when muslins must have to pray. Muslims... More

Bandim market is busy at any time of the day and opens every days, not like other markets in Africa where you can't walk without being hassled, here you feel you have the chance to look at things. As Guinea-Bissau is one of 10 poorest countries in the world the goods are rare and the market is basically to cover the most important needs. You will find the market together with shops.
