I visited Mauritius this February, and I just encountered the biggest festival for Hindu. During the day time you will see a lot of Hindu walking with the decoration flower car on the street, their final destination is Grand Bassin. It's a very important ritual for them to take the water from the sacred lake and keep it by your... More

Quite different from Indian temples - no prasad & no hustling. Very serene and tranquil place to visit and take pictures around the lake.

Famous for Maha Shivaratree festival in Feb/Mar each year. Hindus seem to make a pilgrimage to the small temples and altars located on the shore. In addition to the 115ft high Shiva statue already there and a Durga statue is under construction. Peaceful and calming extinct volcano vent.

Nice place. The smell of incense and chant of mantras fill the air and you feel at peace along with the serene lake surrounding the temple. The big Shiv idol on the way adds to the feel. One would feel that a visit to Mauritius would have mostly beaches and rain forests and this was a surprise thrown in.

We happen to visit this spiritual place during the once a year (5 days) Shiva. 500,000 Hindu participate in the pilgrimage. We were welcomed by everyone and people were more than happy to explain the rituals that were taking place. Lots of free food too! It is a pilgrimage that takes place in March where people come to Grand Bassin... More

I have been there for the Maha Shivaratree last week. It remains a spiritual place. The statue at the entrance is amazing.

Dirty and smelly place worth paying a visit only if you don't have anything better to do. You can take here several colorfull photos for instagram but that's all. Visit of 30 minutes is enough and the smell of holly cows kept in the tample will soak into your cloaths so make sure to take another set to change it... More

Interesting place to visit and for spiritual activities. With the huge statue of Lord Shiva approx 108 ft high at the entrance. One will already feel the high spirituality and devotion at Ganga Taloa.
