Average lake depth is almost 800ft. with no visibility. Depending on where you stay there is little to do other than a boat ride and looking at the lake. No beach.

I stayed in Kibuye and took a half-day boat ride to 'chapeau de Napoleon' island. The views are lovely and the temperature was perfect for a refreshing dip in the lake. Very picturesque and peacefully quiet,

I went to both Gisenyi and Kibuye to spend a weekend on Lake Kivu. If you only have time for one, go to Gisenyi - there's more to do there.

I spent a day at Lake Kivu in November 2015 and had a wonderful time. The lake is huge. I especially enjoyed the small, sardine like fish that seemed to be a specialty of the restaurant by the Lake side.

This place is perfect, quiet, peaceful, and so, so beautiful. Beach areas, restaurants (and hotels if you feel like staying, boat rides, views of the Congo. Definitely worth going to.
