Very pretty lake, with many islands and small fishing boats. Many kingfishers and cormorants, plus some birds of prey. Went to the bat island and saw loads of bats flying around overhead. Also went to one of the inhabited islands and wandered around speaking to the locals, where we were invited to the local nursery, school and hospital. Headed up... More

I stayed in Kibuye and took a half-day boat ride to 'chapeau de Napoleon' island. The views are lovely and the temperature was perfect for a refreshing dip in the lake. Very picturesque and peacefully quiet,

I am glad to see the beautiful fishing boat and see different kinds of fishing method. There are small two hot-spring nearby, admission fee is needed. One deaf woman stationed at the hotspring will offer you massage with the mud. The fisherman village are charming and beautiful, worth to spend a day here.

A 4 hour road trip from Kigali took me to Rubavu (previously known as Gisenyi). One could see Goma (DRC) from Rubavu and Bukavo (DRC) from Cyangugu on the far southern part of the Lake. I prefer Rubavo/Gisenyi. The lake is very serene, boat rides and swimming is done here. I enjoyed the ambiance of Inzozi Beach hotel which was... More

I went to both Gisenyi and Kibuye to spend a weekend on Lake Kivu. If you only have time for one, go to Gisenyi - there's more to do there.

I spent a day at Lake Kivu in November 2015 and had a wonderful time. The lake is huge. I especially enjoyed the small, sardine like fish that seemed to be a specialty of the restaurant by the Lake side.

This place is perfect, quiet, peaceful, and so, so beautiful. Beach areas, restaurants (and hotels if you feel like staying, boat rides, views of the Congo. Definitely worth going to.

A tranquil area where you can have lunch and enjoy the views of the lake and surrounding hills. There aren't many things to do but worth a visit if you have time on your hand.

We visited Lake Kivu from Gysenyi (Rwanda) side. You can find public and private beaches. During the week, on the public beach there are not many people taking a bath, so you can enjoy it like a private one. You can have a boat trip on the lake from the hulk. Serena beach is very nice, you can enjoy there... More
